Yeah Zune Team!

Well the Zune team was quick to respond and isolate the issue. Turns out us zune 30 users have a small bug in the code that calculates the day of year, where the extra day that leap year gives us resulted in an infinite loop at the end of the zune load screen.

Why only the zune 30 model? Well the hardware for the zune 30 differ from the newer models, including the one used for time telling so each of them needed a different code for the clock that so many users wanted. Guess who ever wrote the one for the 2006 model had been looking at code for too long and didn't notice the slip up.

Zuneboards (here the have the problem code posted)

In the end the fix was simple let your zune's battery run out, wait for January 1st and recharge zune. Problem solved until next leap year. Then again, as stated by some zune users, next leap year is in 2012 and if the Maya's and theorist are right we won't be seeing this issue again. I leave it up to you whether this is good news or bad.
